The angry youths confronted the KMA taskforce over the demolition of structures
A demolition exercise by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) at Asafo in the Ashanti Region turned chaotic after residents reportedly attacked a demolition taskforce and military personnel with stones and clubs.
The exercise, which targeted illegal structures in the area, was disrupted as angry residents attempted to stop the demolition.

A video shared by JoyNews on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, showed a large crowd hurling stones and shouting at members of the taskforce while they continued with the exercise.
The situation escalated when the taskforce was forced to retreat after coming under a barrage of stones from the crowd.
Residents also targeted an excavator brought to the site to demolish the structures, pelting it with stones in an apparent attempt to halt the operation.
