The Rent Control Department has warned hostel owners who breach Ghana’s rental regulations that they will face the full force of the law.

Speaking at the launch of GhanaWeb’s real estate portal on Thursday, July 9, 2026, the Rent Commissioner, Frederick Opoku, said the department would not be intimidated by the status or influence of individuals who violate rental laws.

He stressed that all assessments conducted by the department would be based on legal and economic considerations rather than personal connections.

The Rent Commissioner said his office is determined to identify and deal with landlords who attempt to bypass the system.

“I have promised that people who disregard the law will be smoked out and will be crushed with state power. I reiterate,” he said.

He also expressed support for GhanaWeb’s real estate platform, saying such initiatives could help create a more effective housing system for Ghanaians.

Opoku added that the Rent Control Department would continue to work with stakeholders, including landlords, to promote compliance and improve the rental market.
