Construction workers on the Hohoe road project have accused their contractor of subjecting them to poor working conditions and unfair treatment.
According to them, the wages are far below industry standards, with no provision for food, water, or protective gear, leaving many workers frustrated and forcing some to abandon the project altogether.
One worker who spoke with Ghana Roads & More and shared on X on July 8, 2026, explained the daily reality of their job, stressing that despite performing multiple tasks, they are still underpaid.
"We are paid GH¢40 a day with no feeding, no water as well. I’m a labourer, holding flags, directing tipper trucks, and sometimes helping during the stone base arena," he claimed.

He added that drivers on the project are also poorly compensated, earning only slightly more.
"My colleagues are labourers too, earning GH¢40, as you can see. But drivers, the tipper drivers, are paid GH¢50 a day, which is very bad. We can’t continue like this. This has made most of the workers run away," the worker added.
Beyond wages, the workers say they lack basic safety equipment such as boots and reflectors, which compromises their well-being on site.
He stated, "We don’t have safety boots either. If you look at my back, the reflector I’m wearing belongs to another company. It’s very hard for them to even give us a reflector. That’s the problem we’re facing here in the community. Our payment is not good at all."

The workers are appealing to authorities to intervene and ensure fair treatment and improved working conditions.
