The Commonwealth of The Bahamas is set to receive 300 Ghanaian teachers this year as part of a new cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening educational ties and expanding labour mobility between the two countries.
The announcement was made by the Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who said the arrangement followed official negotiations during his visit to The Bahamas, where he represented President John Dramani Mahama at the country’s 53rd Independence Anniversary celebrations.
In a post on his official X page sighted by GhanaWeb on July 11, 2026, the Minister said he conveyed President Mahama’s appreciation to the Prime Minister of The Bahamas, Philip Edward Davis, for the invitation and highlighted the outcome of bilateral discussions between the two countries.

He described the deployment of the teachers as the first phase of a broader education cooperation initiative, adding that the move would open a new chapter in Ghana-Bahamas relations beyond the existing partnership involving Ghanaian health workers.
The Minister said Bahamian authorities have expressed satisfaction with the performance and work ethic of Ghanaian nurses currently serving in the country under a similar arrangement, which has helped build confidence in extending the partnership to other sectors.
“The 300 Ghanaian teachers will usher in a new era of expanded labour mobility beyond health workers between our two nations,” he stated.
Ablakwa noted that Ghana and The Bahamas share deep historical and ancestral connections, with many Bahamians tracing their heritage to Ghana.
He added that Ghana remains committed to pursuing diplomatic engagements that create opportunities for citizens while strengthening partnerships with other countries.
