Outrage as NPP alleges 'Rambo-Style' arrest of Dennis Miracles Aboagye

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed grave concern over what it describes as an escalating pattern of politically motivated law enforcement actions following the arrest of its former Director of Communications for the 2024 Flagbearer Campaign, Dennis Miracle Aboagye.

According to party officials and supporters, Aboagye was arrested on Sunday night in what they characterised as a "Rambo-style" operation allegedly carried out by operatives of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

They claim he was taken into custody without prior notice and, as of the time of reporting, had not been formally charged.

The NPP further alleges that Aboagye was denied immediate access to his legal team and that his whereabouts were initially unknown, raising concerns about due process and the protection of his constitutional rights.

The arrest has sparked protests from party supporters, who have taken to the streets demanding his immediate release and insisting that the rule of law must prevail over what they describe as politically driven intimidation.

The party has also accused EOCO, under its Executive Director, Raymond Archer, of employing heavy-handed tactics against former NPP government officials through what it describes as punitive arrests and stringent bail conditions designed to inflict punishment rather than administer justice.

These allegations have not been independently verified, and EOCO has not publicly responded to them.

NPP members contend that Aboagye has been one of the most outspoken critics of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), consistently challenging the government's policies and performance through public commentary.

His arrest has also attracted political attention because it came shortly after he publicly declared his intention to contest the NPP’s National Communications Director position in the party’s ongoing internal elections.

Some political observers and party sympathisers have questioned the timing of the arrest, arguing that it could fuel perceptions of political interference, although no evidence has been publicly presented to establish any connection between Aboagye’s political ambitions and the actions taken by EOCO.

The unfolding developments are expected to intensify the national debate over the independence of state investigative institutions, respect for civil liberties, and the need to ensure that law enforcement actions remain transparent, impartial, and firmly anchored in the principles of constitutional democracy.
