11-year-old boy drowns in pit at Adenta Aviation

An 11-year-old boy, identified as Samuel Awalime, has been confirmed dead after reportedly drowning in a pit at Adenta Aviation in the Greater Accra Region.

Personnel from the Adenta Fire Station responded to a distress call and launched a search and recovery operation led by DOIII Obosu.

According to a statement issued by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on July 13, 2026, firefighters worked alongside personnel from the Ghana Police Service, chiefs, and members of the traditional council to retrieve the boy's body.

The GNFS said the coordinated effort ensured the operation was conducted safely and effectively despite the challenging conditions.

"Firefighters worked alongside personnel from the Ghana Police Service, as well as chiefs and members of the traditional council to conduct a search and recovery operation. The collaborative effort ensured the operation was carried out safely and effectively," the statement said.

After several hours of intensive operations, the rescue team recovered Samuel Awalime's body from the pit at approximately 10:50 a.m.

The body was subsequently handed over to the Adenta Division of the Ghana Police Service to facilitate investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident and for any further necessary action.
