NAM 1 submits seven key documents in Menzgold trial

The former Chief Executive Officer of the defunct Menzgold Ghana Limited, Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM 1, has submitted his witness statements and supporting documents as part of his defence in the ongoing trial in which he is accused of defrauding more than 16,000 customers.

The documents filed by NAM 1 include seven items, such as agreements involving the Government of Ghana and his company, as well as, pictures of gold bars and other materials he intends to rely on during the trial.

According to a report by graphic.com.gh, the court has granted Mensah until Friday, July 17, 2026, to file any additional documents he wants to use in support of his defence.

NAM 1 is expected to continue giving his evidence-in-chief on the same date.

Meanwhile, NAM 1 has pleaded not guilty to all the charges levelled against him, including 39 counts of selling gold without a licence, operating a deposit-taking business without a licence, inducement to invest, defrauding by false pretence, fraudulent breach of trust, and money laundering.

He insists that he did not operate illegally and that he had the proper authorisation to run his gold business.

During a cross examination at the Accra High Court in February 2026, NAM1 rejected claims that he operated without a license.

He explained that his company, A2, was duly incorporated and licensed to engage in gold mining, gold purchasing, value addition and export activities.
