Miracles Aboagye should have notified EOCO before travelling - Kwesi Pratt Jnr

Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has stated that the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) had already initiated a stop order before discovering that former government official, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, had travelled out of the country.

Speaking on Peace FM's Kokrokoo on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, Pratt Jnr explained that EOCO had indicated that Aboagye was cooperating with investigations but later became concerned that he might leave the country, prompting the agency to issue the stop order.

According to him, by the time the directive was initiated, EOCO realised that Aboagye had already departed.

Pratt Jnr further argued that since Aboagye was aware he had a pending case with EOCO, he ought to have informed investigators before travelling.

"EOCO said he was cooperating with them, but they became concerned that he might travel, so, they issued a stop order. By then, they realised he had already travelled. Since Miracles knew he had a pending case, he should have informed EOCO before travelling," Pratt Jnr said.

The comments come amid ongoing public debate over EOCO's handling of its investigation involving the former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation and the circumstances surrounding his arrest at the Accra International Airport (AIA) on Sunday July 12, 2026, on his return to Ghana.

Meanwhile, EOCO has accused Miracles Aboagye of the misappropriation, misapplication, diversion, and theft of public funds amounting to GH¢55 million.

In a statement issued on July 13, 2026, EOCO said Aboagye's arrest forms part of ongoing investigations into allegations linked to his tenure as the former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCOD).

The anti-graft agency said investigations are ongoing and urged the public to allow due process to take its course.
