Nana Akomea questions EOCO's use of stop order against Miracles Aboagye

Chairman of the Communications Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea , has questioned the Economic and Organised Crime Office's (EOCO) decision to rely on a stop order to arrest Dennis Miracles Aboagye after he had already returned to Ghana.

Speaking on Peace FM's Kokrokoo on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, Nana Akomea argued that the purpose of a “stop order” is to prevent a person under investigation from leaving the country, not to arrest someone who has already re-entered Ghana.

According to him, if the individual was already outside the country before the stop order was issued, using that same order upon the person's return defeats its intended purpose.

"A stop order is meant to prevent someone under investigation from travelling outside the country. If the person was already outside the country before the stop order was issued and has returned, why would you still use that stop order?" he questioned.

Nana Akomea further maintained that Aboagye had been cooperating with EOCO's investigations and therefore saw no justification for the manner in which he was arrested at the Accra International Airport.

He also criticised the decision to detain Aboagye from Saturday to Sunday at the airport, describing the handling of the matter as unnecessary.

The comments come amid ongoing public debate over EOCO's handling of its investigation involving the former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation and the circumstances surrounding his arrest at the Accra International Airport (AIA) on Sunday July 12, 2026, on his return to Ghana.

Meanwhile, EOCO has accused Miracles Aboagye of the misappropriation, misapplication, diversion, and theft of public funds amounting to GH¢55 million.

In a statement issued on July 13, 2026, EOCO said Aboagye's arrest forms part of ongoing investigations into allegations linked to his tenure as the former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCOD).
