Ghanaian defender Hafiz Gariba has taken another significant step in his rapid rise after joining Barcelona’s first team for the club’s 2026/27 pre-season preparations.

The 19-year-old centre-back was among the academy players called up by head coach Hansi Flick as the Spanish champions returned to training at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper.

Gariba completed the club’s routine medical tests before taking part in his first training sessions alongside several senior stars.

Photos and videos from training showed the young Ghanaian looking relaxed and confident as he worked alongside experienced first-team players, highlighting the growing trust the club has in one of La Masia’s brightest defensive prospects.

Gariba’s inclusion comes after an outstanding rise since joining Barcelona in February 2025.

After initially featuring for the club’s youth sides, the commanding defender quickly established himself as a key figure and has now earned promotion to Barça Atlètic while also receiving an opportunity to impress Flick during pre-season.

Reports in Spain describe him as a composed defender with strong ball-playing ability, physical presence and maturity beyond his years.

With several Barcelona internationals still unavailable following the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Flick has turned to several academy talents, giving Gariba a valuable opportunity to showcase his qualities and stake a claim for future first-team involvement.

Although the pre-season call-up does not guarantee a senior debut, it marks another important milestone for the Ghanaian youngster.
