Kofi Adams backs Carlos Queiroz to stay on as Black Stars coach

Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has thrown his support behind Carlos Queiroz remaining as Black Stars head coach, insisting the Portuguese tactician has shown the importance of having an experienced coach in charge of the national team.

Speaking on 3FM Sunrise, the minister said Queiroz deserves more time after guiding Ghana to a respectable campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“We should give Carlos Queiroz the opportunity to stay longer. He has proved that a coach matters,” Kofi Adams said.

Queiroz was appointed Black Stars head coach on April 13, 2026, replacing Otto Addo, who was dismissed after Ghana’s international friendly defeats to Austria and Germany in March 2026.

The 73-year-old signed a short-term contract to lead the team at the World Cup.

Despite having limited time to prepare, Queiroz guided Ghana through a difficult Group L campaign.

The Black Stars opened with a 1-0 victory over Panama before holding England to a goalless draw.

Although Ghana suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Croatia, the four-time African champions progressed to the Round of 32 as one of the tournament’s best third-placed teams.

Their campaign eventually ended following a 1-0 defeat to Colombia.

Following Ghana’s elimination, speculation emerged that Queiroz had resigned after posting a farewell message on social media.

However, both the coach and Kofi Adams clarified that no formal resignation had been submitted, leaving his future with the Black Stars unresolved.
