This is a blatant lie to throw dust in the eyes of the public. Galamsey is as bouyant as ever before. There is nothing serious happening to curb it. These so called abandoned excavators are only so because of the requirements of a permit to clear them. This permit requirement have rather become a medium for corruption; officials are claiming huge sums of money before issuing the permits. So those who can't afford the exorbitant bribery have chosen rather to abandoned them. There are also officials using the back door to help importers of these excavators to sell them off at discounted prices. The politicians are both beneficiaries and partakers of the galamsey business.
