'Don't blame Mahama, it's a purely legal matter' - Vim Lady speaks on Abu Trica's extradition

Media personality Afia Pokua, popularly known as Vim Lady, has urged Ghanaians to refrain from politicising the extradition case involving social media personality Abu Trica.

Speaking on the matter in a post on her social media, Vim Lady argued that the extradition process is governed by international legal agreements rather than political considerations, stressing that neither President John Dramani Mahama nor any political party should be blamed for the development.

"To be fair, don't blame President Mahama or the opposition or others for Abu Trica's extradition; it is a purely legal matter," she said.

According to her, Ghana has extradition treaties with the United States, the United Kingdom and several other countries, allowing suspects wanted for alleged crimes to be transferred between jurisdictions.

She explained that just as Ghana can request the extradition of individuals who commit crimes against Ghanaians and flee abroad, foreign countries also have the right to seek the extradition of Ghanaians accused of offences within their territories.

"Recently, we extradited the former MASLOC woman, so it is strictly a legal matter. No one should say, 'Because of Abu Trica, I won't vote for this party.' You have a right to vote for whoever you want, but don't say because of Abu Trica. It's not fair," she stated.

The broadcaster further noted that Ghana has a prisoner transfer agreement with the United States, recalling that during President Mahama's first administration, Ghana accepted two former Guantanamo Bay detainees under a bilateral arrangement.

She maintained that such agreements are based on legal frameworks and international cooperation rather than partisan politics, urging the public to separate legal processes from political debate.

"So, let's not make this a political matter. These are simply international legal agreements," she said.
