A Sekondi College student, identified as Oswald Asamoah, has shared how venturing into the bread business helped improve his family's financial situation and eventually led to the establishment of their own bakery.
In a snippet from a seminar sighted by GhanaWeb on July 17, 2026, Oswald, who is raised by a single mother of six children, recounted how entrepreneurship became a lifeline for his family.
According to him, his mother made a living by selling bread to provide for the family, and he decided to support her despite concerns that bread selling was largely considered a female-dominated trade.
"I realised that my mother had to take care of all six children, including me, by selling bread. I offered to help her sell. My mother asked if I could because it was a female-dominated business. I said yes.
"Along the line, I realised that others had increased their prices even though production costs had not gone up. So, I reduced ours to attract more customers. Now, my mother no longer has to buy bread from others to resell. We now own a bakery," he said.
Oswald also revealed that while in senior high school, he started selling sachet water in the dormitory during the evenings after the main gates had been closed.
According to him, the venture enabled him to earn enough money to cater for his personal expenses without relying on his mother for his upkeep.
