'She has a toddler' - Brother of jailed TikToker begs for mercy

The brother of jailed TikToker Camila Alhassan has appealed to government authorities to secure her release after she was sentenced to one year in prison.

Speaking to the media in a video sighted by GhanaWeb after the trial on Thursday, July 16, 2026, the man, who declined to give his name, said the sentence had deeply affected the family.

He acknowledged that his sister's actions were wrong but appealed for forgiveness, urging the authorities to temper justice with mercy.

He also noted that Camila is the mother of a toddler and the family's breadwinner, adding that her imprisonment would have a significant impact on both the child and the rest of the family.

“The sentencing has really affected the family. I am an NDC youth organizer in Awutu and so I’m appealing to the government to forgive my sister. If she has committed wrongdoing, she is only human and so they should have mercy on her and forgive her actions.

“She has a toddler so they should temper justice with mercy. The child needs the mother to take care of her since my sister is the one who supports the family,” he said.

Camilla Alhassan has been sentenced to one year in prison by the Accra Circuit Court after pleading guilty to charges of offensive conduct and publishing false news.

The ruling was delivered on July 16, 2026, following her admission that she shared videos falsely alleging, without any evidence, that President John Dramani Mahama buried 32 cows as part of rituals to secure victory in the 2024 general election.

Reacting to the judgment, her lawyer, Kwadwo Gyamfi Bonsu, explained that the court dismissed the charge of electronic abuse, ruling that it lacked the jurisdiction to determine that offence.

However, the court found her guilty of offensive conduct and publishing false news and sentenced her to a one-year prison term.

He added that although the defence pleaded for a more lenient sentence, the court maintained that the increasing number of similar cases warranted a punishment that would serve as a deterrent.
