A new video has surfaced showing the moment the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, was escorted into a prison vehicle after being sentenced.

Chairman Wontumi arrived at the court premises in the early hours of Monday, July 20, 2026, in high spirits, dressed in a bright yellow and blue kaftan and riding in a Porsche saloon car.

However, following his conviction and sentencing, he left the court under heavy security as a convicted prisoner.

The video shared by The1957News shows prison officers escorting him into the waiting vehicle before it drove away from the court premises.

Wontumi was sentenced to 20 years' imprisonment with hard labour after being convicted on all six counts brought against him.

In a judgment delivered on July 20, 2026, the Criminal Court 4 Division of the High Court, presided over by Justice Audrey Kocuvie-Tay, found him guilty on all charges.

Chairman Wontumi, Akonta Mining Company Limited, and a third accused person, Kwame Antwi, stood trial over alleged illegal mining activities on the company's concession at Samreboi in the Western Region.
