Watch Volta River Authority staff join national sanitation drive

The Volta River Authority (VRA) has joined the national sanitation campaign with a series of clean-up exercises across its operational locations aimed at improving drainage systems and reducing flood risks.

In a video shared by the authority, staff from VRA offices in Accra, Tema, Kpone, Akuse, Akosombo, Aboadze and Anwomaso were seen desilting drains, removing debris, clearing blocked waterways and sweeping public areas.

The exercise formed part of the company’s response to the President’s national sanitation call and efforts to strengthen flood resilience in communities.

The clean-up activities focused on restoring proper water flow through drainage channels and reducing the risk of flooding, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.

The Chief Executive of VRA, Edward E. Obeng-Kenzo, commended staff for their participation, describing the initiative as a demonstration of civic responsibility and commitment to supporting national development efforts.

He said the authority plans to institutionalise regular clean-up exercises across its operational areas to promote environmental cleanliness and community safety.

Obeng-Kenzo also expressed sympathy to individuals and communities affected by recent flooding incidents and called for collective efforts to improve sanitation practices.

The initiative has renewed discussions on the role of corporate institutions in supporting local sanitation efforts and complementing government interventions in waste management and flood prevention.
