Former government spokesperson, Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, has disclosed the last conversation he had with Chairman Wontumi, moments before he was taken away to begin his prison sentence.

Speaking after Wontumi was escorted from the Accra High Court on Monday, July 20, 2026, after his sentencing, Palgrave said the NPP Chairman remained calm and urged him and party members to stay focused despite his conviction.

According to him, Wontumi's final message was for members of the party to work hard and return the NPP to power.

“He told me to work hard and bring the party back to power and said he would be fine. Immediately after he told me that, they came and took him away. He said, ‘My younger brother, I will be okay’,” he said in an interview on Neat FM on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.

Palgrave, who became emotional, said it was painful to leave the courtroom without Wontumi for the first time after attending several court hearings together.

He said they shared a close relationship and regularly spent time together both inside and outside court.

“He is like my elder brother, and we have a good relationship where we eat together and discuss almost everything. Every time both of us go to court, we come out together, and for the first time, I was the only one who exited the courtroom without Wontumi. It is very sad. I don’t know what to do,” he said.
