Watch new airport scanners designed to speed up passenger screening

Passengers travelling through the Accra International Airport are expected to enjoy faster and more convenient security screening following the installation of advanced security scanners at the facility.

A video shared on X by The 1957 News on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, shows the Airport Aviation Security Manager, Abdul-Isaaka Bamba, taking viewers on a guided tour of the newly installed screening equipment and explaining how the technology is expected to improve airport security while enhancing the overall passenger experience.

According to him, the new scanners allow passengers to pass through security checkpoints without removing their belts and certain other personal items, reducing delays and making the screening process more efficient.

The advanced screening equipment was announced by President John Dramani Mahama during the launch of Ghana's e-Visa system in May 2025 as part of efforts to modernise airport operations and strengthen aviation security.

The installation of the scanners forms part of broader measures to improve passenger convenience while ensuring that Kotoka International Airport continues to meet international aviation security standards.
