The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that Ghana and India have set an ambitious target of doubling their current trade volume to US$6 billion, underscoring the growing economic and diplomatic partnership between the two countries.
The announcement was made on Saturday July 25, 2026, when he received the letters of credence from the new Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, Surinder Bhagat.
Ablakwa said the new trade target reflects the confidence both countries have in their longstanding relationship and their shared commitment to expanding economic cooperation.

"Our partnership with India continues to grow from strength to strength, and together we have set our sights on increasing bilateral trade to US$6 billion," he said.
The Foreign Affairs Minister disclosed that Ghana and India have identified agriculture, information and communication technology (ICT), and pharmaceutical manufacturing as priority sectors for enhanced collaboration.
"These strategic sectors hold tremendous potential for investment, innovation and industrial growth, and we are committed to strengthening cooperation in these areas," he stated.
According to Ablakwa, expanding cooperation in these sectors will help create employment opportunities for the country's youthful population while boosting productivity and economic competitiveness.
"This partnership is not only about increasing trade figures but also about creating meaningful jobs for our young people and equipping them with opportunities for the future," he added.
He further explained that the strengthened collaboration with India forms part of Ghana's broader vision of driving sustainable economic growth and positioning the country as a leading player in Africa's development agenda.
"Our goal is to anchor Ghana's economy on a path of sustainable development through strategic international partnerships that deliver tangible benefits for our people," the Minister said.
The Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, Surinder Bhagat, reaffirmed India's commitment to deepening relations with Ghana and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
"India highly values its longstanding friendship with Ghana, and we look forward to working closely to promote trade, investment, technology transfer and shared development," he said.
The renewed commitment by Ghana and India is expected to strengthen bilateral relations while opening new opportunities for economic growth, investment and industrial development.
