Watch as UMAT Vice Chancellor warns against 'indecent dressing' among students

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Mines and Technology (UMAT), Professor Bernard Kumi-Boateng, has announced that the university will enforce a stricter dress code from the next academic year, warning students against what he described as indecent dressing on campus.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, Prof Kumi-Boateng expressed concern over what he said was the growing trend of male students attending lectures with plaited hair and earrings, while some female students wear revealing outfits to class.

"Men are now coming to UMAT classes with plaited hair and earrings, and our female students are almost naked. From next academic year, you can't dress that way to class," he said.

The Vice Chancellor indicated that the university would no longer tolerate such forms of appearance in lecture halls, signalling that students will be expected to comply with the institution's dress code when the new academic year begins.

"Let me drop another bomb, if you are from UMAT, from next year you can't dress that way to class," he said

His remarks have since sparked conversations on social media, with some users backing the proposed measures as necessary to promote discipline and professionalism on campus, while others argue that students should be free to express themselves through their appearance.
