'I heard fire, finish am!’ before they shot 48 bullets into my car' - Adwoa Safo recounts

Former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo has opened up about the shooting incident at her late father's residence, sharing the harrowing account of how she narrowly escaped what she believes was an attempt on her life.

It can be recalled that on June 21, 2026, reports emerged that the former MP had engaged in an exchange of gunfire with bodyguards at the residence while attempting to force her way into the premises.

The shootout reportedly ended with Adwoa Safo sustaining gunshot wounds to her neck.

Speaking about the incident in an interview with Okay FM on July 28, 2026, Adwoa Safo dismissed claims that she went to the residence armed or attempted to force her way onto the property.

According to her, she had received information that a ceremony was being organised to install a new leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission despite ongoing confusion over the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo's will and a court injunction related to the succession dispute.

“So I was curious and decided to go and investigate. I was not armed. I didn't go with anybody. No driver, no bodyguard. I wore a simple t-shirt, shorts and ‘chale wote’ with a cap because I didn't wear a wig. It was a Sunday, so I felt that everyone would be relaxed,” she stated.

Adwoa Safo alleged that shortly after arriving at the gate and making inquiries about her brother's whereabouts, gunmen opened fire on her vehicle.

“I heard, 'Fire! Finish am!' and they started shooting. They shot 48 bullets into my car. They wanted to kill me. God saved me,” she claimed.

She said the attackers mistakenly believed she was seated in the back of the vehicle while a driver was behind the wheel.

“What saved me was that they thought I was in the back seat. If I had gone with a driver and was sitting behind, I would have been dead,” she added.

The former MP also denied allegations that she rammed the gate of the property or carried a firearm.

“I have never owned or held a gun in my life. I don't even know where to acquire one,” she said.

She added that she had never been associated with gun violence throughout her 12 years as a Member of Parliament.

“If I was a violent person, you would have heard me shooting or brandishing a gun during elections. But there has never been any such incident. Why would I then take a gun to someone's house?” she retorted.

The shooting occurred at the height of a succession dispute within the Kristo Asafo Mission following the death of its founder, Apostle Kwadwo Safo.

Police investigations led to the arrest of several suspects, while prosecutors alleged that Adwoa Safo sustained gunshot injuries when she arrived at the residence during a ceremony to install her younger brother, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, as successor.

Authorities also recovered multiple firearms and ammunition from the scene as investigations continue.

Following the arrests, Adwoa Safo noted that she has never received any apology or show of remorse for the alleged attempt on her life.

“Meanwhile, you were the one hoarding guns in your house. You were the one picked up by the police.

“And since then you have not even shown any remorse for trying to kill me,” she stated.
