You're absolutely wrong, Mr Michael Dedey. You are right when the problem has not been an issue of generational poor city/metropolitan planning like the ones we face in Ghana in each of our metropolitan cities.

In our Ghana where the national government is strapped with cash flow problems and local governments do not have the authority to raise revenues via property taxes, the once viable option of using "eminent domain" to move people out of the way to create roads/streets to bring sanity to planning no longer exists.

In the absence of money and a reluctance to dislocate/ relocate people via eminent domain process the only other effective solution is interchanges. Let us look at the Accra-Tema metropolis and the issue of road/ vehicle congestion. When driving into Accra from Cape-Coast/Winneba there could have been 2 bypass roads, a road to the north and one to the south that attempts to skip all of Accra.

The interchange road to the south will end up around Osu or La while the interchange to the north ends up somewhere past Afienya area. Such road options should allow people who live in Tema and eastern region towns to avoid all the road networks in Accra and Tema. And depending on where one lives in Accra or Tema one could join either the north or the south bypass roads to avoid city centers and known road bottlenecks in Accra-Tema areas.

I dare these experts to visit countries like Japan, the US, Germany etc and see how they plan. I can swear that they factor the rural folks into any town planning else, it is much ado about nothing. Whatever they have in their cities, they have something similar for their rural dwellers as way to keep them in their localities unlike in Ghana and most African countries, where the rural dweller is stigmatized.

My word of caution to these town planning experts is please, spread development to the rural areas because those living in the rural areas are all Ghanaians.

Engineer Dedey you are spot on in your poor planning postulation but real problem is the election of just anybody as president of Ghana and who in turn appoint all manner of characters to work with because they aided his campaign. To date, its only and certainly Dr. Bawumia whose vice presidency offered any meaningful addition to his president and Ghana in an economic advisory role. But then presently check these appointments and background of heads: Energy - Jinapor (Devt Studies -what studies is that?), Roads (Agbodza - architecture instead of area of study), agriculture ( Opoku -social sciences), environment (late Murtala - political science), communication (miscellaneous and unaligned background i.e. some of everything), WORKS and HOUSING Dedey's subject matter (the occupant is a marketing product). With such disjointed appointments HOW DO WE GET THINGS DONE PROPERLY in this country? The appointments are incompetent and of no benefit in terms of correlation to planning. We need to appoint people with know how to fan and straighten up these flaws. As for shuffling papers anyone can but move forward and address our poor infrastructure and other national sectoral deficiencies the right people should be put at the right places. It is my hope that with the impending reshuffle coinciding with the 2nd half of Mahama's office he will SERIOUSLY look at this and be guided. So far Ghana does not look serious at all. Smaller countries are making fun of us even in FOOTBALL.
