The Kitchen is too hot for NDC government. If you nurture indiscipline, rowdiness, disrespect, insults etc, the answer is a society that emits offensive odor.

What is the meaning of "Indiscipline", and does it rest only in our schools? While no one condone such reckless attitude, we should ask questions and answer them.

I am student from the good old days when corporal punishment was part of the school system, but that was then because society have come far enough and with the advent of technology and its additives like "Phones" etc, reinstating corporal punishment in schools need a careful thought.

Let me add that our political posture plays a very key role with this canker of indiscipline which rearing its ugly head. Why, because children listen to how we address our elders with foul languages without thinking what comes next, so the question is "Na who cause am"?

What has Moslem clerics got to do with the teaching of a language? We must keep a close eye on this guy, as well as Mohammed Muntaka. Psychologically bcoz of economic situation I don't think teachers are mentally prepared to carry out such corporal punishment. It was rare in the 70s and even 80s to have teachers salaries delayed for 24 or even 12mths, how then do you demand that such a person take on such a responsibility. Again many teachers in our time academically were good that's why many could move on to other careers, currently many go there bcoz of their average grades.They are already frustrated.

All research around the world indicate that corporal punishment is only effective in changing behaviour in the short term, but once the punishment is removed, the bad behaviour comes back, and you can't keep beating a child forever. What is effective is for parents to instil discipline in children and they will grow to respect laws and rules. We have failed our children because we haven't been good models for them and because we as parent are indiscipline, our children have learnt to be indiscipline. We need to start from ourselves as parents and children will learn from us. Every idiot sits at radio station and use profane words and publicly insult others. We steal and have become dishonest so why are we surprised that our children have no discipline and respect for basic rules? Charity begins at home.

I was a student who underwent Corporal in my early education from even Level I in Primary School for not being able to spell some simple words like “BOY, GIRL, TABLE “ etc correctly. That was very wrong because our Parents couldn’t teach us at Home or help us with any Homework because they had no Basic Knowledge in Western Education. Also some of our Teachers came to School reasonably drunk and just beat students for no reason. It is appropriate to make undisciplined students to perform Physical labor in School- like using the Machetes to weed bushy places, and also sweep places on Campus. No Student should be given any form of Physical Discipline for not being able to to answer Academic Questions correctly. Students sometimes need more Counseling than Corporal Punishments.
The World has changed and our Educational System must reform. Corporal punishment is not a solution.

Without foreign immigrants do you think USA can survive the test of time with their disciplinary issues e.g. shooting in schools? Many of our relatives and classmates in America have complained several times that that country is thriving bcoz of immigrants without them it would've collapsed by now. Majority of their scientists, academicians, best investors etc are descendants of immigrants who had different cultures and accept a form of corporal punishment at home. The indigenes are all rotten bcoz of the freedom they had at school when they were kids.

Let us not politicise this very important subject. In any case which polician has thrown out more insults than Kennedy Adjapong. So please let us discuss this issue objectively. I am 100% for introducing caning back to the schools but the caning must be done only by the headmaster / headmistress, assistant headmaster/headmistress and senior housemaster/housemistress. All other teachers who catch students breaking the rules must refer caning these three officers in the schools. It will curb the situation where bad tampered teachers or some of the young teachers in the school cane students sensely and in some cases injuring them. I completed one of the so called grade a schools in ghana some forty odd years ago and this was the policy then and it worked. Indeed the names of students who had suffered this form of punishment was displayed on the notice board for all to see. Look we must take this matter seriously to save our children from themselves. I mean how can students gang up to beat their teachers because they were not allowed to cheat in exams. Something must be done about discipline in our schools and bringing back caning is one of them.

Ghana is not an isolated country. We should learn from developed nations, many of which once faced challenges similar to ours but chose to reform their systems and move forward.

Even countries such as China, which is not a fully democratic state, have abolished corporal punishment in schools. South Korea, widely recognised for having one of the world’s highest-performing education systems, also does not permit corporal punishment in its schools.

Corporal punishment is not an effective or progressive approach to education. It teaches fear rather than discipline, and violence rather than respect. If Ghanaian courts no longer sentence people to corporal punishment because it is considered inhumane, why should we continue to accept it in our schools?

A modern nation should focus on positive discipline, accountability, counselling, and character development—not physical punishment. Continuing to endorse corporal punishment only reinforces a culture of abuse rather than one of respect, learning, and human dignity.
