My little concern is the term of office for the president. As things are now, a good president needs not less than five (5) busy straight years to be able to achieve something meaningful for the nation, thus SEVEN (7) YEARS in office: one year for cabinet setup in the beginning of governance, and one year for campaign for election or re-election at the end of governance. After leaving office, the president and their ministers should (must) be probed immediately for good or bad governance, and delt with accordingly, without fear or favour. If they did well, set free; if found culpable, conviction.

It is public knowledge that the evidence of the Airbus bribery scandal didn't show up until Airbus was tried and found guilty in a foreign court, which may take more than the 3 year period available to put a former President on trial. In this case the 3 year period is just useless. No limit should be set for the time a President could be tried after his term is over. That 3 year limit is the reason why corruption is rampant in Ghana

Overall Goal

The Committee believes Ghana has succeeded in holding regular democratic elections but has not achieved comparable improvements in governance, accountability, public services, and economic development. What about the INDEMNITY CLAUSE in Ghana's constitution? It has outlived it's relevance. How can a Nation entrusts it's resources, destiny and everything in the care of one person as president and after his term of office for 4yrs or 8yrs, the constitution says no one can take him to court for him to account for his stewardship. Are we serious as a country? This is the reason so many people are fighting to become president of Ghana because they know they can use the position to loot the nation and after their term of office no one will hold them responsible for their actions and inactions. This paves way for corruption. Even if someone puts his private business in the care of an individual after a year, the care taker is made to render account of his stewardship, how much more a whole country putting it's destiny into the hands of one person for 4yrs or 8yrs. The INDEMNITY CLAUSE must be reviewed and removed from the Ghana constitution!
