AG's move to suspend Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu’s judgment faces setback

The Court of Appeal has postponed its decision on an application by the Attorney General, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, seeking to temporarily stop the court's earlier ruling that acquitted and discharged former MASLOC CEO Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu.

According to thelawplatform.online, the application was heard on Friday, July 31, 2026, but the three-member panel said it could not reach a final decision after meeting for nearly two hours.

The panel, made up of Justices Sophia Rosetta Bernasko-Essah, Dr Ernest Owusu-Dapaa, and Ayitey Armah-Tetteh, said it would announce a new date for the ruling after obtaining permission from the Chief Justice because the legal vacation begins on August 1, 2026.

The report stated that lawyers for both sides appeared before the court to argue the application, with Enoch Deegbe and Sydney Antonio representing Sedina Tamakloe, while Hilda Craig represented the Attorney General.

It will be recalled that the Attorney General filed the application less than 24 hours after the Court of Appeal overturned Sedina Tamakloe's conviction and 10-year prison sentence.

The application is aimed at stopping the effect of that decision while the state challenges the ruling at the Supreme Court.

According to information presented in court, the Attorney General also served Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu with the appeal documents at Nsawam Prison on Thursday evening.

The hearing went ahead even though most courts in Accra were not sitting because of activities marking the 150th anniversary of the Supreme Court.

The Court of Appeal, however, decided not to give its ruling immediately and said it would communicate a new date after completing the necessary procedures.
