Political analyst, Dr Samuel Afriyie, has urged newly re-elected Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffour, popularly known as Abronye, to change his communication style to make the party more attractive in the region.

According to him, Abronye has a significant task ahead of him as the Bono Region is not performing electorally in a manner the NPP would expect.

Speaking on TV3’s New Day on Monday, August 17, 2026, Dr Afriyie said Abronye’s decisive victory in the regional chairmanship election gives him a strong mandate, but he must now focus on changing the dynamics of the party in the region.

“Abronye needs a lot of work to do in that region. The region is not performing for the NPP,” he said.

Dr Afriyie said the overwhelming endorsement showed that delegates had confidence in Abronye’s ability to lead the party, despite controversies surrounding his communication and previous encounters with the law.

However, he cautioned that Abronye should not assume that his personal popularity alone accounted for the party’s performance in the region.

“He needs to change his style of leadership in the region, just to change the dynamics. If not, I think that it can be repeated in the next election,” he stated.

Dr Afriyie further urged Abronye to work towards uniting the various factions within the regional party, particularly those who supported other candidates during the chairmanship contest.

He said rebuilding unity would be essential to strengthening the NPP’s grassroots structures and improving its electoral prospects.

“He also has a big task to bring everyone on board and change his style of communication so that the party will be attractive,” Dr Afriyie indicated.

He said Abronye must also adopt messages that give party members hope and make the NPP more visible and appealing to voters in the region.

Abronye secured 201 votes in the regional chairmanship election, defeating his closest contender, who obtained about 44 votes.
