Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler says the club has already taken steps to remove the “rotten elements” he encountered upon arrival, insisting the squad is now united and working towards the same objective.

Tinkler made the remarks while speaking to the media on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, after Kotoko’s training friendly against Heart of Lions at the University of Ghana Stadium.

The South African coach revealed that discipline was one of the major issues confronting the team when he assumed the job, but believes significant progress has since been made.

“I’m here to teach and help the players improve in the game and ultimately manage them. Discipline on and off the field was the issue when I arrived and I think we’ve dealt with that really well,” he said.

Tinkler then delivered his strongest assessment of the changes within the squad, suggesting that certain negative influences had to be removed to create a more cohesive group.

“We’ve got rid of the rotten elements that existed and today you can see everyone is united. Everybody is fighting for the same results,” he added.

The Heart of Lions friendly formed part of Kotoko’s preparations for the 2026/27 season, with Tinkler continuing to assess his players and build the team in his image.
