Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has rejected claims that he is opposed to the government’s accountability initiative, Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL).

Speaking on the KSM Show, and monitored by GhanaWeb on August 19, 2026, the Minority Leader said he supports efforts to ensure that politically exposed persons are held accountable for their use of state resources.

He, however, said his concern is not with accountability itself but with the manner in which investigations and related actions are being carried out.

“Nobody, and I want to repeat it before I leave the studio, nobody is against accountability. Nobody is against ORAL,” Afenyo-Markin stated.

According to the lawmaker, investigations involving public officials must be handled with what he described as a “human face”, raising concerns about how some state investigations are being conducted.

“I am not in any way against accountability, but what I'm saying is that accountability should be pursued with a human face,” he said.

Afenyo-Markin stressed that public officials who receive state funds must be prepared to explain how the money was used.

He said individuals who misappropriate state funds or take decisions that cause financial loss to the state cannot rely on politics to avoid investigations.

“If you are given state funds, no way can you say that you are being harassed. If you misappropriate state funds or take a decision that causes financial loss to the state, you can’t use politics as an excuse if you are being investigated,” he added.
