The Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has challenged New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku to reconsider his political history before describing members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as his ‘good friends.’

Pratt made the comments during a discussion with Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, after Poku suggested that the veteran journalist’s close relationship with the NDC influenced his commentary on political issues.

Pratt questioned the basis of the assertion, pointing to his long history of involvement in Ghanaian politics and his relationships with politicians across the political divide.

“Hold on. But look, how do you look at my history and make the kind of statements that you have? That NDC are my good friends, you should know better,” Pratt said.

He said his political record showed that he had played significant roles in political struggles involving both the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Pratt recalled his participation in the struggle against the PNDC and said he was also a key player in the NPP’s efforts to win political power in 2000.

He disclosed that he inaugurated the first Dankwa-Busia Club at the KO Methodist Park in Kumasi, which eventually became the NPP.

According to him, his disagreement with the administration of former President John Agyekum Kufuor over matters of principle did not make the former president his enemy.

“I fell out with the Kufuor administration on matters of principle. In spite of that, today, President Kufuor is still one of my closest friends,” he stated.

Pratt also rejected suggestions that his criticism or defence of political actors was determined by personal friendships.

He said he had criticised the NDC on several occasions whenever he believed such criticism was justified.

“I criticise the National Democratic Congress when criticism is due and reasonable. And there are many instances on which Moro will bear me out. I've been very critical of the National Democratic Congress,” he added.

Pratt further argued that ideological or political differences should not automatically turn people into enemies, stressing that he had maintained friendships with politicians from different political traditions.

“The fact that we disagree ideologically and so on does not make people my enemies and my best friends and so on. Take that equation out of the conversation,” he told Poku.

He maintained that attempts to portray him as an NDC sympathiser could not erase his long-standing record and contribution to Ghana’s political discourse.

“My history of participation in Ghanaian politics would not support the claims that you guys make,” Pratt indicated.
