CCTV footage has captured a collision involving a commercial minibus, popularly known as “trotro,” and a police pickup vehicle transporting suspected cannabis smokers at an intersection on the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) campus in Kumasi.

The footage, which has circulated on social media, shows the police pickup entering the intersection at the KNUST traffic light leading to Ayeduase before the trotro crashed into the rear section of the police vehicle.

The force of the collision caused the police pickup to lose control and veer off the road.

Several of the suspects who were being transported in the open bucket at the back of the vehicle were thrown out during the crash.

The suspects could be seen tumbling onto the road and being flung in different directions as the pickup swerved following the impact.

The commercial vehicle also went off its lane after the collision before sliding onto the grassy area beside the road.

The police pickup, with registration number GP 1035, was reportedly transporting about seven suspected cannabis smokers to the police station after they had been arrested during a police operation.

Following the accident, several people sustained injuries. Those affected reportedly included police officers, passengers travelling in the trotro and some of the suspects being transported in the police pickup.

The injured persons were subsequently taken to the KNUST Hospital for medical attention.
