Ghana’s 2026/27 crop is projected at 650,000 tonnes — down 13% from last season’s 750,000 but still above COCOBOD’s earlier 450,000–550,000 range. Ageing trees, swollen shoot disease and the risk of a drier El Niño pattern are the main pressures.

Côte d’Ivoire faces a similar squeeze, with early assessments pointing to fewer young pods and weaker development. Analysts have already cut global surplus forecasts sharply. Stocks are elevated for now, which may limit how far prices can run, but tighter West African output keeps the market on edge. For Ghana the structural problem remains farm productivity and disease management; a single better harvest does not reverse the longer decline in yields.
