Former Ada East Assemblyman Noah Dogah, who shot to internet fame after his viral “Go and ask your grandfather” video, has opened up about the incident that gave birth to the now-famous phrase.
Dogah was recently spotted and invited to recount what happened, particularly the circumstances surrounding the incident and how his now-iconic response came about.
According to him, the incident occurred during a voting process when he was called upon to assist with the sorting of ballot papers after voting had ended.
He explained that the presiding member mentioned his name, together with those of other individuals, to take part in the ballot-sorting exercise.
But what was expected to be a routine process, according to Dogah, quickly turned into a dramatic scene.
He said that as he approached the ballot box, a group of masked men allegedly rushed towards it and attempted to seize the box.
Dogah claimed the men eventually took the ballot box away from the venue before returning with it later, amid allegations that the ballots had been tampered with.
That, he suggested, was when the situation became even more heated.
“I said, where is the BM? Matter come. We will not defend this,” he recounted.

Dogah said he raised concerns about the incident and sought legal assistance, insisting that the matter was serious and needed to be addressed through the appropriate channels.
While the incident may have been tense at the time, Dogah’s animated delivery and choice of words would later turn him into an unlikely social media celebrity.
His now-famous “Go and ask your grandfather” response quickly caught the attention of social media users, with the phrase becoming a popular catchphrase and spawning countless memes, jokes and imitations. Reflecting on life and leadership, Dogah also offered a rather fruity analogy.
He said people seeking leadership positions must learn to be patient and allow themselves time to mature, just as a fruit needs time to ripen before it is harvested.
“When a fruit is on a tree, the acidic content in it is high,” he explained.
Using the fruit analogy, Dogah suggested that aspiring leaders should not be in a hurry to occupy positions before they are ready, noting that maturity comes with time and experience.
For many Ghanaians, however, “Go and ask your grandfather” remains the line that cemented his place in Ghana’s ever-growing collection of viral internet moments.
