ECG announces emergency power outage in Accra West Region

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Accra West Region, has announced an emergency power outage scheduled for Sunday, August 23, 2026, to enable the Ghana Grid Company Ltd. (GRIDCo) to carry out urgent repair works on the Tema–Achimota 161kV transmission line at Ashaiman.

According to a statement issued by ECG on Saturday, August 22, the outage will run from 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and is necessary to facilitate the replacement of a damaged transmission tower.

ECG said the damage reportedly occurred following a fuel tanker explosion during welding activities within the transmission line Right-of-Way.

Areas expected to be affected include James Town, Mamprobi, Chorkor, Sempe, parts of Kaneshie, North Industrial Area, Okaishie, Agbogbloshie, Kantamanto, Adabraka, Ridge, Tesano, Santana Market, parts of Alajo, Malam Atta Market, Asylum Down and surrounding communities.

ECG debunks claim of GH¢14.4 billion losses

ECG apologised for the inconvenience the outage may cause, while assuring customers that the repair works are critical to restoring stability and reliability to the transmission network.

The company urged residents and businesses in the affected areas to take note of the scheduled outage and make the necessary arrangements to mitigate its impact.
