The program gives BoG the authority to buy domestic gold with our cedis so this gold will raise the value of our cedi to make it attractive to investors. The purchase was to be done by GoldBod which Sammy Gyamfi is the CEO.
In these transactions, it has been reported by IMF that the total trading cost and valuation differences, presented a loss of $1.7 billion. Actually, this is not money missing but an estimate of amount of gold purchased and global market value.
What does this mean? Did GoldBod buy the gold at a higher price? Or was it caused by fluctuations of the global price?
Sammy is a novice lawyer, so he needs an economist or accountant in his office setting and the governor of BoG to come out with him for a press conference. Or allow his economic subordinates to explain in both English and twi to prevent politicians seizing the opportunity to bring him down.
We are rich and our cedi has been revalued to a good rate. All we need is an explanation of the currency "shortfall" as a result of market price of gold.
