Resign if you can't be accountable - Charles Owusu tells Sammy Gyamfi

Political commentator Charles Owusu has called on Sammy Gyamfi, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), to resign if he feels he can't perform his duties and remain accountable to Ghanaians.

Speaking during a panel discussion on Peace FM’s 'Kokrokoo' morning show, Charles Owusu criticised Sammy Gyamfi’s tone at a recent press conference where he launched attacks on Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin. He argued that Sammy Gyamfi should have focused on explaining the substantive issues to the public rather than trading insults.

“Sammy Gyamfi should have addressed Ghanaians, putting out what the real issues are for them to understand, not fire salvoes at the Minority Leader,” he said.

He stressed that Ghanaians have the right to clear information and accountability from public officials.

“His response to the issue was not the best. He should go back and listen to the video of what he said. He was not addressing party members but Ghanaians. If you think you can’t explain things to Ghanaians, the best thing to do is to walk out,” he added.

Charles Owusu's remarks come amid heightened exchanges between Gyamfi and Afenyo-Markin over alleged financial losses at GoldBod, with Sammy Gyamfi insisting that reports by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Bank of Ghana did not blame the institution.
