André Ayew is a Former Black Stars captain
Former Black Stars captain André Ayew has called for the emergence of Ghana's next big local football star after Salim Adams left Medeama.
Ayew, speaking about the current crop of standout players in the Ghana Premier League, identified Benjamin Asare as the leading candidate while stressing the need to develop another player capable of taking centre stage.
"With the departure of Salim Adams from Medeama, we need to create our next star. As we speak, Benjamin Asare is the number one," Ayew said.
According to the former Marseille and Swansea City forward, Salim had gradually taken over the mantle from established local stars, making his departure a significant loss to the domestic league.

Ayew noted that while several talented players remain in the league, none has yet clearly emerged as the next dominant figure.
He also expressed hope that Benjamin Asare will secure a new contract soon, describing him as a player capable of becoming the next major star in Ghanaian football.
"We need to create our next star, our next promising star," Ayew added.
