Education Minister inducts KNUST Vice Chancellor as Chair of Technology and Consultancy Centre

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has inducted the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Prof Christian Agyare, as Chair of the University's Technology and Consultancy Centre.

The induction followed a courtesy call by Prof Agyare on the Minister in Accra, during which they discussed key priorities for the University's development, including science and technology education, research, student accommodation and infrastructure.

Iddrisu congratulated Prof Agyare on his appointment and wished him a successful tenure.

The Minister assured KNUST of the government's support through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) towards the completion of the University's Teaching Hospital.

He said the facility would enhance teaching and learning, particularly in health-related disciplines, while also providing healthcare services to people in surrounding communities.

Iddrisu urged the University to place greater emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), encouraging KNUST to produce more graduates in science-related fields to meet the changing needs of the economy.

He also called on the new Vice Chancellor to strengthen collaboration with private hostel owners to provide affordable accommodation for students.

In response, Prof Agyare assured the Ministry of his commitment to advancing the University's mandate and working closely with the government and other stakeholders.



He said KNUST was already taking steps to increase its focus on science by directing more resources towards re-equipping and retooling laboratories.

He added that the University was also strengthening its programmes and research in TVET, Artificial Intelligence, emerging technologies and other areas relevant to the needs of the new generation.



On student accommodation, Prof Agyare said the University was engaging hostel owners to explore ways of making accommodation more affordable.

He further pledged to deepen stakeholder engagement during his tenure, noting that collaboration would be key to advancing the University's academic, research and development objectives.
