Catholic priest suspended after leaving parish without permission

The Catholic Diocese of Konongo-Mampong has suspended Rev Fr Samuel Adapore indefinitely after he allegedly left his parish without permission.

The suspension took effect on August 24, 2026, following a decision by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Konongo-Mampong, Most Rev John Opoku-Agyemang, in consultation with the College of Consultors.

In a statement issued on August 24, 2026, and signed by Most Rev John Opoku-Agyemang, it explained that Fr Adapore, who was the Rector of St Anthony of Padua Rectorate at Nkwantakese, has been suspended a ‘divinis’, meaning he is no longer allowed to publicly administer the sacraments, celebrate or concelebrate Mass, or officiate other liturgical services.

The bishop said the decision followed the priest's decision to take a leave of absence from the diocese and leave his pastoral duties without permission.

“This suspension is due to serious acts on the part of Rev. Fr. Samuel Adapore, including taking a unilateral decision to take a leave of absence from the diocese and abandoning his pastoral ministry at the St. Anthony of Padua Rectorate, Nkwantakese, without legitimate permission,” the statement said.

According to the diocese, Fr Adapore also took all his personal belongings from the mission house before leaving.

The statement added that his whereabouts are currently unknown, as he has blocked all access to him. His immediate family members have also said they do not know where he is.

“As at now, he has blocked all access to him and his immediate family members have maintained that none of them knows his whereabouts,” the statement added.

The bishop called on members of the church to remember the suspended priest in their prayers.
