I lived in America for more than 38 years, where I completed my graduate studies and built my professional career in corporate America. While some of his actions may have been perceived as having racist undertones, I do not believe that the gentleman who was brutally killed was, in fact, a racist. Rather, it appears that some individuals, influenced by an extremely liberal mindset and what I consider a distorted sense of social morality, came to view him as a threat or menace to their community.

Although I disagree with the decision to terminate her, I also believe that her crude and insensitive comments regarding the killing were unwarranted and particularly unfortunate, especially coming from someone whose family originates from a traditionally conservative country.

Freedom of speech is a fundamental right, but it should never be misconstrued as a license to justify, celebrate, or condone the slaughter of another human being.

Your core argument is about tribalism, xenophobia, and selective standards around political violence, but several of the historical claims need to be separated and verified.

A few important distinctions: Rwanda is indeed a devastating example of ethnic/identity politics escalating into mass violence, but describing the entire genocide simply as “tribalism” can obscure the specific historical and political mechanisms involved.

Ghana’s NPP has historically drawn particularly strong support from some Akan communities, while the NDC has also had strong regional/ethnic bases. But saying Akufo-Addo could not have become president without tribalism is a much stronger causal claim than the evidence supports. His elections involved ethnicity, party organization, economic conditions, incumbency, campaign strategy, and voter preferences.

The claim about Edward Akufo-Addo being “the architect of xenophobia in the 70s” appears particularly problematic chronologically: Edward Akufo-Addo was president from 1969–1972 and died in 1979. Ghana’s major expulsion of undocumented immigrants occurred under the Acheampong government in 1969 and especially the 1969 Aliens Compliance Order—not under Edward Akufo-Addo personally.

Ghana’s experience also shouldn’t be casually presented as the direct cause of subsequent Nigerian and South African policies. Those countries had their own political and economic histories.

The experience of African immigrants in the United States during the 1980s is worth discussing, but claims about widespread Black American hostility toward Africans and competition over jobs need evidence rather than generalization.

And there’s an important distinction in your final point: freedom of speech protects the expression of many offensive or hateful ideas, but it does not mean society must tolerate or excuse murder, incitement to imminent violence, or violent acts themselves. Those are different questions legally and morally.

So I wouldn’t dismiss your broader argument as merely an “extreme liberal blame game.” The stronger version is: identity-based prejudice can take ethnic, racial, national, or tribal forms, and societies should apply the same moral standard to all of them rather than condemning one while minimizing another. That argument is much easier to defend than several of the specific historical claims in the passage.
