George Afriyie is entitled to his opinion, but saying Benjamin Asare didn’t deserve his reward simply doesn’t add up.
The real question is: what was the reward based on? Best midfielder? Best domestic player? Best World Cup performer? Or overall contribution? Without a clear criterion, saying Salim Adams deserved it “more” is an opinion—not a fact.
As a former goalkeeper and now a trainer, I know that goalkeeping is more than making saves. Positioning, anticipation, decision-making, command of the box, communication and composure are all part of elite goalkeeping. Asare stepped onto the biggest stage and delivered. His clean sheet against England was no accident—it was a statement of quality, preparation and mentality.
Salim Adams can be excellent without making Asare undeserving. Celebrating one should never mean diminishing the other.. I genuinely believe Asare has shown the quality to attract serious European interest. Tottenham Hotspur should take a serious look at him.
So let's give Benjamin Asare his flowers. He earned them. Full stop.

Sometimes I think that George’s dislike for Kurt is doing him more harm than good. He must seem to oppose everything that has Kurt attached to it.
Since when did awarding players for their exploits in a particular year, come as a result of the fact that someone has gone to the World Cup and another was home bla bla bla.
Where is the talk of merit and effort? This is what some of our so-called football people do, and sow seeds of hatred in the hearts of football players against administrators.

I have nothing against Benjamin Asare buy George has made a very good point. Awards and rewards should benefit everyone. We all know the national team cannot call up every player, but local players should also be recognized so they feel like they are part of the GFA.

Local players who have dedicated their lives to playing in the local league deserve to be rewarded. When they are recognized and appreciated, it will motivate them to work harder and strive for greater opportunities.

Let’s not dismiss what George is saying as being far from the truth. This is a reality. A player should not only be recognized because he has played for the national team. The local players also deserve recognition and support.

For teams and players to travel by road all over the country is already a major challenge and, in some cases, a serious safety risk. We need to do more to support and motivate the players who continue to keep our local football alive.
