The Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, announced during parliamentary proceedings on August 24, 2026, that he had sued the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, and three others, including the Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Eric Adjei.

The Minority Leader, who is also the Member of Parliament for Effutu, disclosed that he had filed two separate suits against the two men, whom he accused of making defamatory comments against him over allegations that he was an “extortionist.”

“I have accordingly caused writs to be filed in Suit Number GT/1029/2026, titled Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin versus Samuel Adu Gyamfi and Multimedia Group Limited at the Accra High Court, and Suit Number GR/ACH/CC/C5/02/2026, titled Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin versus Eric Adjei and Peace FM at the Achimota Circuit Court,” he announced.

The document, which was shared on Facebook by Dormaa-based Osikani FM, confirms the details announced by Afenyo-Markin.

The writ names Sammy Gyamfi as the first defendant and Accra-based Multimedia Group Limited as the second defendant.

Among the reliefs being sought by Afenyo-Markin are damages and a retraction of the alleged defamatory statements.

Below are some of the reliefs listed in the document:

a. General damages for libel;

b. Aggravated damages;

c. Exemplary damages;

d. An order directing the defendants to publish a full, unconditional and unequivocal retraction of the defamatory statements;

e. An order directing the defendants to publish a full, unconditional and unequivocal public apology to the plaintiff; and

f. An order directing that the retraction and apology be published and/or broadcast with substantially the same prominence and reach as the original publication.

g. An order directing the Defendants to cause the retraction and apology to be broadcast on JoyNews and published on the relevant electronic and social media platforms through which the defamatory publication was disseminated

h. An order of perpetual injunction restraining the Defendants, their servants, agents, assigns and/or any persons acting under their authority from further publishing the defamatory words or any words to the same or substantially similar effect concerning the Plaintiff

i. Costs of Fifteen million Ghana cedis (GH¢15,000,000.00) as compensation thereof

j. Costs, including legal costs; and

k. Any further or other reliefs as this Honourable Court may deem fit.
