Watch CCTV of how farmer allegedly stole gallons of ‘Apio’ worth thousands of cedis

CCTV footage has emerged showing how a 24-year-old farmer, Dauda Ibrahim, also known as Yaro, allegedly stole gallons of local gin from a storage room containing yellow-coloured gallons and large basins filled with akpeteshie locally known as ‘apio’.

According to the timestamp on the footage, the incident occurred at about 2:44 am, when Dauda, wearing a white singlet and trousers rolled up to his knees, moved barefoot through the facility.

The footage, which led to Ibrahim’s conviction, shows him carrying the gallons one after another while the suspected accomplices, who were not captured, appeared to be waiting on the other side of the wall to receive the goods.

After carrying about four gallons, Ibrahim is seen walking towards another side of the wall, stretching his neck to check the premises before returning to carry another batch.

The footage later became key evidence in the case against Ibrahim, who was fined GH¢7,200 by the Nsuta Circuit Court in the Ashanti Region for stealing akpeteshie worth thousands of cedis.

The court, presided over by Judge Simon Nketiah Gagah, sentenced Ibrahim on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, and ordered him to pay the fine or serve three years in prison in default.

The prosecution told the court that the complainant, Aduna Frimpomaa, had been trading in large quantities of akpeteshie for about two years but had suffered repeated thefts from her stock, leading her to install CCTV cameras at her premises to identify the people behind the thefts.

On July 19, the cameras captured Ibrahim stealing seven gallons of akpeteshie valued at GH¢3,500, and he was subsequently arrested by police.

According to the prosecution, the stolen liquor was recovered from a person who had received the goods and the matter was later settled out of court after Ibrahim’s family appealed for a settlement.

However, on August 3, 2026, the victim said she discovered that another 20 gallons valued at GH¢12,000 were missing, where she quickly reviewed the CCTV footage.

She discovered that Ibrahim was linked to the theft before reporting the matter to the police. Ibrahim was later arrested at a hideout following an intelligence-led investigation.

During police investigations, he identified a man known as Popolampo as his alleged accomplice, who has yet to be located. Ibrahim also led investigators to Ama Sarpong, who was arrested for allegedly receiving stolen goods.

The prosecution said Sarpong admitted buying four of the stolen gallons from Ibrahim for GH¢2,000. The court ordered that the GH¢2,000 recovered from Sarpong be handed over to Frimpomaa.
