‘Carlos Queiroz is too old for Black Stars job’ – Harry Zakour

Former Asante Kotoko Chief Executive Officer Harry Zakour has questioned the suitability of Carlos Queiroz to continue as head coach of the Ghana senior national team, describing the Portuguese tactician as too old for the job.

Zakour, speaking on the future of the Black Stars’ technical team, believes Ghana should consider younger local coaches who have demonstrated their abilities both domestically and abroad.

“I think he’s too old for the job,” Zakour said when asked whether Queiroz should continue as Black Stars coach.

He suggested that Ghanaian coaches such as Kwesi Appiah and Laryea could be considered, insisting that local coaches deserve greater support.

“You know, we have one or two good coaches in Ghana. Kwesi Appiah is not bad. Laryea is not bad, you know. And look how well they are doing outside,” he said.

Zakour also criticised the government’s handling of salaries for coaches of Ghana’s junior national teams, arguing that delayed payments undermine the development of local coaching talent.

“Most of the national teams and junior teams struggle to get their salaries,” he noted.

According to him, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation must take responsibility by properly budgeting for the payment of national team coaches.

“The ministry is supposed to be the one paying. You have to do a budget. This is a budget from the government. You, the Sports Minister, have to write a budget and present it to the government, to the Finance Minister,” Zakour added.
