Watch as immigration officers storm the streets of Accra to remove beggars

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has intensified efforts to remove undocumented immigrants and beggars from the streets of Accra and other parts of the country.

In a video that has gone viral on social media and sighted by GhanaWeb on August 29, 2026, immigration officers were seen using two buses to patrol different areas and arrest individuals.

At one point, the bus stopped at a location where beggars were stationed, and they were ordered to board with their luggage and belongings.

Some women who attempted to resist arrest were compelled by the officers to join the bus as onlookers watched.

This operation comes amid growing public concern over the increasing presence of beggars on the streets of Accra, with rising security issues linked to the situation.

The exercise has been commended by some Ghanaians and stakeholders, who have urged the Immigration Service to continue and, more importantly, implement more stringent measures to address the menace in the long term.
