NPP internal elections: 47 aspirants file nominations as three withdraw

Forty-seven of the 50 aspirants who purchased nomination forms to contest the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) 2026 National Officers Elections have successfully filed their completed forms.

The National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC) announced that the filing process officially closed at 6:00 pm on Saturday, August 29, 2026.

Three aspirants, however, did not complete the filing process.

They are Bernard Antwi Boasiako, who was seeking to contest for the National Chairperson position; Evans Kodom, an aspirant for National Communications Director; and Perpetual Ekua Lomokie Akwada, who picked up forms to contest for the National Women Organiser position.

Boasiako formally withdrew his candidature, while Kodom stepped out of the race during the filing of Dennis Miracles Aboagye's nomination.

Akwada, on the other hand, failed to submit her completed nomination forms before the deadline.

Following Kodom's withdrawal, Dennis Miracles Aboagye is now the sole aspirant for the National Communications Director position.

He will proceed to the vetting stage as a potentially unopposed candidate, subject to successfully completing the vetting process and meeting all applicable requirements.

The vetting of the 47 aspirants is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 31, and end on Thursday, September 3, 2026.

The Vetting Committee will be chaired by former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Cecilia Abena Dapaah.

Candidates contesting for the positions of National Chairperson, General Secretary and National Treasurer will appear before the committee on Monday.

Aspirants for National Vice Chairperson will be vetted on Tuesday, followed by candidates for National Organiser and National Youth Organiser on Wednesday.

The final day of vetting, Thursday, will be dedicated to aspirants seeking the positions of National Communications Director, National Nasara Organiser and National Women Organiser.

The National Officers Elections Committee has assured party members of its commitment to ensuring an "orderly, fair, transparent and credible" process.

It has also urged aspirants and their supporters to conduct themselves in a manner that promotes party unity and strengthens confidence in the electoral process.
