‘NDC rule often comes with international scandals’ – Akosua Manu

New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator Akosua Manu has claimed that governments led by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are often hit by international scandals.

Speaking on Channel One TV on August 29, 2026, she cited several cases involving Ghana and foreign institutions, including the Ghasem Scansem scandal, Mabey and Johnson, Armajaro, and the Airbus bribery case.

According to her, these cases have, at various times, brought Ghana into the spotlight over corruption-related allegations.

“The side note for me is that I've noticed something where often this party in particular, when it seems to come into governance, an international crisis hits it. I remember 2007; there was Ghasem Scansem, who also took international, you know, the outcome brought Ghana into disrepute.

“Mabey and Johnson, I think in your early days as a journalist, you even discussed it. Then there was Armajaro in 2010. Then there's Airbus. Even the Airbus issue, Martin Amidu ran away from it. It was the current OSP that took it on, but the OSP also named five persons,” she stated.

Speaking on the Asante Berko case, she said it was linked to events that occurred shortly after the Power Ministry was established in November 2014.

“I believe that the time frame, even the time that the engagement with the power purchasing negotiations happened, was within weeks of the power ministry being formed. It was formed in November of 2014; I think within months, that engagement was going on, and all that you raised questions,” she said.

“It's also noteworthy that it was the bank that Berko worked at that started the investigation. Berko was appointed to TOR under Nana Akufo-Addo, but subsequently resigned when these issues came up,” she added.

She argued that while such issues attract international attention, there is often a different response to them locally.

“Well, but for me, it also can be seen that internationally we get dirtied or we are clothed in a corruption garment, but locally, we whitewash ourselves,” she noted.

Akosua Manu maintained that similar situations had occurred several times, with international investigations exposing actions taken under NDC administrations.

“And I'm saying that there are many times, too many times, that this party, when it's in government, gets exposed by something they did in the previous administration and then they have to deal with it,” she argued.
