Here’s when NPP begins vetting of 47 national officer aspirants

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will begin vetting 47 aspirants seeking various positions in its 2026 National Officers Elections on Monday, August 31, 2026.

The four-day exercise, scheduled to end on Thursday, September 3, marks the next major stage in the party's internal electoral process following the close of nominations.

The National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC) announced that 47 out of the 50 aspirants who purchased nomination forms successfully filed their completed forms before the 6:00 pm deadline on Saturday, August 29.

Three aspirants, however, failed to complete the filing process.

They include Bernard Antwi Boasiako, who intended to contest for the National Chairperson position; Evans Kodom, who sought to become National Communications Director; and Perpetual Ekua Lomokie Akwada, who picked up forms to contest for the National Women Organiser position.

Boasiako formally withdrew his candidature, while Kodom stepped aside during the filing of Dennis Miracles Aboagye's nomination.

Akwada, on the other hand, failed to submit her completed nomination forms before the deadline.

As a result, Aboagye is the sole aspirant for the National Communications Director position and will proceed to the vetting stage as a potentially unopposed candidate, subject to meeting all the requirements of the process.

Vetting schedule

The exercise will be conducted according to the various positions being contested.

Aspirants for National Chairperson, General Secretary and National Treasurer will appear before the Vetting Committee on Monday.

Candidates seeking the National Vice Chairperson positions will be vetted on Tuesday, while aspirants for National Organiser and National Youth Organiser will appear before the committee on Wednesday.

The final day, Thursday, will be dedicated to aspirants contesting for National Communications Director, National Nasara Organiser and National Women Organiser.

The Vetting Committee is chaired by former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Cecilia Abena Dapaah.

The exercise will determine whether the 47 aspirants who successfully filed their nominations meet the requirements to advance to the next stage of the party's electoral process.

Three aspirants bow out

The conclusion of the filing process reduced the number of active aspirants from the initial 50 who purchased nomination forms to 47.

Boasiako's withdrawal means the National Chairperson race will proceed without him, while Kodom's decision to step aside leaves Aboagye as the only aspirant seeking the National Communications Director position.

Akwada's failure to submit her completed forms before the deadline has also brought her bid for the National Women Organiser position to an end.

The NOEC has urged aspirants and their supporters to conduct themselves in a manner that promotes party unity throughout the electoral process.

It has also assured stakeholders of its commitment to ensuring an "orderly, fair, transparent and credible" process.

The vetting exercise is expected to provide the first formal hurdle for the 47 aspirants as they seek to become national officers of the NPP, with the party continuing its reorganisation ahead of the 2028 general election.
