You are right. During the time of Kutu Acheampong of blessed memory, the Military were used in the construction of roads, bridges and schools. In Uncle Sam's country, the Military has a branch that they call Army. Their role is just like the Police but their Uniform has the designation Army. They can respond when the Police code is called to effect an arrest. They usually don't live at the Barracks but at apartments and houses in localities. They don't wear their Army Uniforms unless they are on duty. Can't we have something like that to check the Armed Robbery and other crimes that are plaguing Ghana. Such an Army Branch of the Military can be deployed to fight Highway Robbery and even crimes in the towns and cities. The Ghana Military can do that.

Hmmm, I know that the Military is a disciplined profession but it is difficult to trust any professionals in Ghana now because of greed, Tribalism and Political affiliations. Some time ago some of the Military people had to pay to some Senior Officers for them to be sent on a Peacekeeping jobs in the Middle East. I hope that the selection becomes fair.
Hahahaha. In Uncle Sam's country, people are covered to join the Military, especially the Marines. I know that there will be hundreds of applicants. My son joined the US Army right after High School and has been on two missions to Iran and Saudi Arabia. I like the USA Military because they are very disciplined and not allowed to roam in town to brutalized people as it was in Ghana during the time of Efo Julor John Rawlings. The Military Personnel do not get to town in Military Uniform. When you see the Military in town, they are always accompanied by a Senior Military Officer and will be in a Military vehicle. If any Military person goes to town alone or with friends, the Police can arrest that person or group. It is interesting that some of the Police have themselves been in the Military before
In Uncle Sam's country, no Military Personnel can just go to town and bully or molest people because most people carry their own very powerful Pistols like.45 Millimeter. Yes, some people who are civilians own and can carry an Assault Rifles in their cars so long as the Gun has been registered. If a Military Personnel is arrested in Uniform for bullying a civilian, that is a Federal Offense. He can be incarcerated in a Federal Prison for many years. If the civilian dies in the process, the Military Personnel can face the Death Sentence in some of the States or Life Imprisonment without the possibility of a Parole. So, the Military Personnel here don't mess up by behaving stupidly. They are very responsible because know what can happen to them if they fool around in Uniform.
Efo Julor John Rawlings' AFRC and early PNDC Regimes brought a lot of indiscipline in the Ghana Armed Forces. I am glad that they no longer go out in their Military Uniforms to harass and beat some people on issues like over who should be the boyfriend of a lady. We have been through horrible times with the Military during the evil days of the AFRC and PNDC Regimes.
