  The VOLTA PROJECT which was put out in the fifties, had several components. These included: power- generation and distribution, processing of bauxite into aluminium, irrigation, water transportation, Freshwater fisheries. The dam was opened in 1964/5. Since then only the powee-generation component has been implemented. It is heartening that our VP has drawn attention to the VOLTA LAKE and it's potential. But it must not be.treared as a NEW idea. We are just waking up to the vision whi h gave rise to the creation of the Volta Dam in the first place.
